Activity 1: Read and learn the text An Infantry Battalion Organization With a total strength of 625 officers and men, the battalion is the basic tactical unit in the infantry and is commanded by a lieutenant colonel, known as the Commanding Officer or CO. The battalion comprises the Battalion Headquarter (HQ) Company, a Support Company and three rifle companies. The CO commands from the HQ Company, which provides the battalion’s administration, command and logistic elements. In the army, he designed a device to count the number of shots fired by a tank as well as other useful tactical devices for tanks. I graduated with degree in infantry officer eight years ago and I was commissioned as a lieutenant into the infantry. My first posting was with the Infantry battalion and I served with the1st platoon as a platoon commander. When I joined my battalion, I did specialist training to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for my first posting.  As a platoon commander, I was responsible for the training, fitness, operational effectiveness and welfare of platoon of 30 men. I was also responsible for the servicing and maintenance of platoon weapon, vehicles and equipment. I learned how to command and lead the platoon on operation and exercises. Activity1: Read and learn the text. Typical Day I usually start my day at 6 o’clock. First, I get up and have a wash and a shave. Then I put on my battle dress uniform and my combat boots. I have to make my bed too, in case there is a room inspection in the afternoon. We normally have breakfast at 6.30. We have all our meals in the mess hall. At 7 o’clock, there is a parade on the square where we have roll call and morning roaster. In the morning, we usually have drill. We practice different marching routines on the parade ground. Sometimes we also do rifle drill, but that is only one a month. We have lunch at 1 pm. Then we have another roster and after that, I go to the armory. I take my personal weapon and go on duty.
